Country/Region : Argentina

Argentina is one of the largest wine producing regions in the world. They are in par with production in the United States and trail right behind Spain. Up until the late 1970's, there wasn't much wine for export with most of it being consumed by the locals. Now they export large quantities to the UK, continental Europe, Scandinavia, Japan and the United States. Argentina grows much of their vineyards way above sea level, giving the grapes the proper temperatures and sunshine. There is also very little vine disease and the Incas laid the groundwork a thousand years ago for irrigation. We are most impressed with their indigenous grapes Torrontes and Bonarda. And of course all that great Malbec.
