Country/Region : Greece

Should we thank the Greeks and their gods for the gift of vines and wines? Yes and no; vines and winemaking go back as far as 4,000 BCE in Mesopotamia, but it was the Greeks who brought vines to Italy, and from there viticulture spread throughout western Europe. As Greek civilization declined, so did the quality of Greek winemaking, but the last two decades have seen breathtaking change as boutique wineries throughout the country have reversed the reputation of Greek wines. We look forward to greatly expanding this category in the weeks and months to come.
