Country/Region : France : Bordeaux

Bordeaux enjoys unique wine-growing conditions, thanks to the presence of the Garonne and Dorgogne rivers which flow through the city of Bordeaux and come together just above the city to create the Gironde. The Gironde divides red-grape territory into right bank and left bank, with Cabernet Sauvignon favored on the left (Graves and the Médoc) and Merlot on the right (Pomerol and St.-Emilion). Inland along the Garonne is rather more white-wine territory, both dry versions made primarily from Sauvignon Blanc and sweet versions (Sauterne and Barsac) made largely from Semillon.
