United States
Wine of some sort is made in every one of the fifty states, though not necessarily from grapes: the Tedeschi family on Hawaii's big island makes a delicious white from pineapples, and word has it (though we've never tasted it) that Alaskans make wine from caribou milk. The most important states for wine lovers, however, remain California, Washington, Oregon, and New York. We are now the world's fourth biggest producer of wine, having overtaken Argentina in the early 1990s.
