Country/Region : Italy : Central

Central Italy includes Emilia-Romagna, Marche, Umbria, Abruzzo, Molise and Lazio. Emilia-Romagna is famous for lambrusco, that light, fizzy, low-in-alcohol red wine. Marche is a hilly coastal region which produces Verdicchio, a clean dry white wine perfect with fish and shellfish. Right next door to Tuscany is Umbria, best known for Orvieto made from the Trebbiano grape. Two other coastal regions, Abruzzo and Molise produce whites with Trebbiano and reds from a number of varietals including Sangiovese and Montepulciano.
