Country/Region : Israel

Israel is, in Old Testament parlance, the "land of milks and honey." Increasingly, however, it is also a land of vines and wines: as of 2005, there were some 140 boutique wineries in the country. This recent rapid growth (until the 1980s Israeli wines were of sacramental interest only) makes Israel truly a seat of wine revolution in this part of the world. As Jancis Robinson writes: "A wine culture is now well and truly established in Israel - a culture that celebrates Israeli wine rather than solely kosher wine - complete with wine magazines, international wine lists in restaurants, recognized wine regions, and scores of small but ambitious new wineries."
