Alenza is a traditional, classic and earthy Ribera del Duero that benefits from 23 months in American oak. Deep red, it is rich and smoky on the nose, with scents of candied plum, cherry liqueur, charred meat, espresso, tobacco and cigar box. Full-textured and powerful, it finishes dry with fairly intense fruit concentration. Round and rich in flavor, it has abundant tannins that will become more refined with additional aging. Fruit and fine oak return on the finish, which is lingering and persistent. Powerful, densely packed dark fruit flavors are accented by exotic spice and earthy nuances, and supported by a firm, tannic frame. Serve it with grilled or braised lamb or game.
