Amayna is an impressive new operation (the 2008 is their second vintage of Sauvignon Blanc) in Chile's San Antonio-Leyda Valley, on the seaward side of Chile's coastal range, a mere eight miles from the Pacific; here the long cool ripening season offers ideal conditions for producing an elegant version of Sauvignon Blanc. The wine is full and ripe with aromas of honeydew melon and grapefruit; on the palate it is zesty with good acidity and a touch of minerality overlaid with intense citrus flavors. Pair this wine with roasted red peppers and goat cheese.
