Villars sur Var is a small medieval village overlooking the River Var valley; it steps up the hillside at a number of levels and is characterized by beautiful stone-built houses. The Clos St. Joseph vineyards are the only ones in the department to be awarded the "appellation d'origine contrôlée" (A.O.C.) "Côtes de Provence." The wine is fruity and elegant, a skillful blend of Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Syrah.
