Quinta dos Carvalhais is the Sogrape project that led to the renewal of the Dão region; it remains today one of the region's standard-bearers. Encruzado is a white wine from the Beiras region of Portugal. It is a Dão white varietal wine of exceptional quality, and this wine is a fine example of the elegance and richness of the grape. The 1999 vintage has a gold yellow color and a sophisticated and subtle bouquet, with very elegant white and yellow fruit and a nutty touch that is characteristic of the variety. On the palate its complexity is enriched by flavor notes from toasted oak. The wine is intense, full-bodied and very well balanced with good acidity. Overall, and despite a slight touch of oxidation due to its age, it is a rich wine with an interesting complexity and character.
