Peter Michael 09 'La Carriere'
In 1982 Sir Peter Michael established the Peter Michael winery on a square mile of rocky volcanic ridges that form the western face of Mount St. Helena in Sonoma County. Since then he has been crafting excellent wines with a winemaking philosophy modeled on the French tradition infused with a few modern influences. His wines are elegant, complex and refined rather than overstated and over-extracted. La Carrière, French for "the quarry," aptly describes this vineyard's bowl shape and its tremendously rocky soils. The 2006 shows the terroir-driven minerality that remains the signature of this vineyard, with aromas of pastry, lily, hazelnut and sweet pear. Accents of mandarin orange, acacia, honey and sweet vanilla complete the elegant bouquet. Presenting wonderful concentration and elegance on the palate, the wine is sculpted, rich, intense and creamy.
