The Lugana DOC falls partly in Lombardy and partly in the Veneto, and our winery, Ottella, is widely considered the best producer of Lugana in the Veneto part. Azienda Agricola Ottella was founded in 1880 by the Montresor family, grape growers for many generations at the southern end of Lake Garda, where they own 62 acres of vines; the grape is Turbiana, once thought to be a clone of Trebbiano but now held to be an autonomous variety perhaps related to Verdicchio. Ottella produces a beautiful example, with a very aromatic bouquet followed by mild, somewhat broad flavors on the palate. The wine is quite dry but not particularly hard edged, forthright and attractive; pair it with delicate seafood or use it as an aperitif.
