Masseria Li Veli, in Puglia, is the fond project of the Falvo family, former proprietors of Avignonesi in Tuscany, who have strong ties to this region; the estate comprises nearly 90 acres, planted to the traditional Apulian varieties, Negroamara, Pimitivo, and Malvasia Nera. This dessert wine, however, is made from Aleatico grapes grown on the island of Elba, dried on straw mats before being vinified; it has layers of black cherries, sweet herbs, and dried flowers, with great length and balance.
