Brooklyn Heights wine enthusiasts find it easy to "treasure" this "neighborhood" standby whose "spirited" staff dispenses "wonderful advice" on any of its 2,000 labels (plus a bountiful array of tequilas and single-malt scotches); not only can you expect to walk away with the "perfect" bottle "to suit your budget", but their case discounts can make for "real bargains."

"There's nothing quite as hospitable as offering guests a drink from a well-stocked bar. In Winter I like to pour a hearty red wine – and lots of it! These are two of my absolute favorites." –Sean McPherson, hotelier

What to drink on Thanksgiving
By Chris Schonberge
WHAT TO DRINK ON THANKSGIVING: We asked experts at some of the city's best booze shops to pick the perfect bottle to pair with your Turkey Day spread.
Whiskey: Corsair Triple Smoke 750ml bottle $47.
"This bottle is America's answer to the smoky Islay whiskeys [of Scotland]. It's made with portions of malted barley that have been smoked over cherrywood, beechwood and peat. You get these really savory, earthy flavors that I crave in fall. We eat smoked turkey at my house, so the peatiness is a good match, but it can stand up to any spice and salt your Thanksgiving spread throws at it."

"Among the chic wine boutiques now opening all over Brooklyn, this 21-year-old emporium rates as an institution–albeit one with a lot of new and interesting wines..."

"Regulars are quite aware of the value of Heights Chateau, judging from the brisk Saturday afternoon traffic. The friendly staff and generally laid-back feeling are reason enough to visit, but a careful look at the shelves reveals a selection chosen with an eye for the quality-price ratio rather than a mindless mix of cheap and pricey."
"Quite simply, though, the best wine shop is the one you trust and the one that has employees or an owner with whom you have a rapport. Tony loves his local wine shop, Heights Chateau in Brooklyn, for that very reason..."." –Sean McPherson, hotelier
