A relatively new player on the Etna scene, Monteleone is the joint effort of Giulia Monteleone, her father Enrico, and her winemaker boyfriend Benedetto Alessandro, who embarked on their wine project in July of 2017 with the acquisition of a five-acre vineyard at the foot of Mt. Etna. Their first vintage produced reds only, the Monteleone Etna Rosso and the Cuba Etna Ross, but the were joined the following year by the Anthemis Etna Bianco and the Rumex Etna Rosso. This is the Monteleone, a 90/10 blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, an Etna Rosso done in a ripe, fruity style. With a subtle smokiness and spice on the nose, it shows loots of red fruit on the palate with smooth tannins and a fresh finish.
