Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey is named in honor of the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky, which was founded in 1992 by United Distillers (who became Diageo in 1997), then sold to Heaven Hill and renamed Heaven Hill Bernheim Distillery in 1999. It would later become Heaven Hill’s primary distillery after the 1996 distillery fire destroyed Heaven Hill’s Bardstown Distillery. Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey was first released in 2005 and is, according to Heaven Hill, “the first new style of American Whiskey to be introduced since Prohibition.” Wheat whiskey is made just like bourbon, except that here wheat changes places with corn, what being the dominant 51% to corn’s 37% in the recipe. This is a lightly aromatic whiskey with a light body and a soft touch, a whiskey that will please bourbon drinkers, especially those who are looking for a soft, easy sip.
