George Dickel had built a reputation for selling the smoothest, most mellow spirits in the region, so when the Cascade Hollow Distillery opened in 1878 in Coffee County Tennessee, Dickel bought a large share of the business. Prohibition put the distillery out of business, but the then-named Cascade Whisky was allowed to be sold as a medicinal spirit through leased equipment at the Stitzel-Weller distillery in Kentucky. Twenty-five years after repeal, in 1958, a new distillery was opened down the road from the old Cascade Hollow Distillery and began producing George A. Dickel Tennessee Whisky. Just released in May of 2019, their Bottled in Bond is a bold and brassy 13-year-old presents the classic Dickel flavor profile, a tasty mix of fruit punch, roasted peanuts, toasted oak, and baking spice.
