Gracias a Dios began life in 2008 as a speakeasy mezcal bar in Querétaro, México. The bar sold mezcal produced by different Maestros Mezcaleros from various Oaxaca state regions. After two years of traveling Oaxaca, owners Pablo López, Enrique Jiménez and Xaime Niembro met Oscar Hernández in Matalán. Deeming it the best mezcal they had ever tasted, they decided to create a brand with Oscar and make him an equal partner. Oscar, a fourth-generation mezcalero, makes the entire Gracia a Dios line by hand, with the assistance of his nephew Milo Hernandez, who is fifth-generation. Gracias a Dios Arroqueño is made with Maguey Arroqueño (Agave Americana), agave that took approximately 15 years to reach maturity and were harvested from the San Pedro Mixtepec region of Oaxaca; it has aromas of fresh herbs, brined olives, and green pineapple and a palate of bell peppers, poblano chiles and cooked agave.
