Gracias a Dios began life in 2008 as a speakeasy mezcal bar in Querétaro, México. The bar sold mezcal produced by different Maestros Mezcaleros from various Oaxaca state regions. After two years of traveling Oaxaca, owners Pablo López, Enrique Jiménez and Xaime Niembro met Oscar Hernández in Matalán. Deeming it the best mezcal they had ever tasted, they decided to create a brand with Oscar and make him an equal partner. Oscar, a fourth-generation mezcalero, makes the entire Gracia a Dios line by hand, with the assistance of his nephew Milo Hernandez, who is fifth-generation. This mescal is made with maguey cuishe that can take fifteen years to mature. This agave is fairly unique as it grows in an elongated piña that can stand up to six feet tall. This mezcal has strong notes of moss and moisture on the nose and a persistent taste of clove, white pepper, cinnamon, and apples.
