Kentucky is synonymous with two things: bourbon and horse racing. Fittingly, then, one of the newest players on the bourbon scene is called Pinhook Bourbon, the brainchild of Sean Josephs, proprietor of the late lamented Char #4 here in Brooklyn. For the uninitiated and curious: pinhooking is an old Southern term for the shrewd purchase of very young thoroughbreds. The best pinhookers are brilliant speculators, with powerful gut instincts honed by experience and a deep knowledge of lineage. Aged more than three years, this Rye was awarded gold at the 2025 ASCOT Awards. Bold yet smooth, it features aromas and flavors of honey-roasted peanuts and baking spices and is smooth and flaavorful on the palate with a warm and gentle finish.
