Plantation Rums are the “grands crus” rums of the Caribbean. They are effectively the creation of Alexander Gabriel, who took over the Cognac producer, Maison Ferrand, in 1989, reviving sales while sustaining the house’s level of quality. Some years on he traveled the Caribbean, in search of the best rums of the region, and wound up creating Plantation as an artisanal range off rums reflecting the best terroirs of the tropics. This special cuvee was introduced to mark the 20th anniversary of Gabriel’s taking the helm of Maison Ferrand. It is an assemblage of rums ranging in age of 12 to 20 years, all originating in Barbados. As with the other rums in the Plantation range, this exotic spirit is aged first in its original country, Barbados, and then benefits from further aging and nurturing in Cognac. It has rich aromas of baking spices, cherries and vanilla, a complex yet superbly balanced palate, and a very long finish, with the spiciness complementing the toasty oak and fruit.
