Rhum J. M is distilled on the smallest estate on Martinique, in the northeast corner of the island, where the sugar cane grows on slopes in rich volcanic soil at the foot of Mount Pelée; the unique microclimate found here permits the distillery to harvest the cane a full month later than other island distilleries, resulting in a rum with uniquely complex flavors. For “Terroir Volcanique” Master Blender Karine Lasalle expertly incorporates heavily charred barrels that convey smoke and earthiness, resulting in a rhum with intense notes of baking spice that still retains the verdant grassiness of the distillery’s younger expressions.
