In 1720 the Farjon family fled the plague in Marseille, settling in Uchaux, a village in the Vaucluse, and giving their name to a small hamlet just north of there, "Les Farjons," where the domaine is located. In 1974 Robert Farjon named the domaine in honor of the Greek god of wine and vines. Today "Dionysos" is in the capable hands of Benjamin Farjon, representing the seventh generation in the family, and his brother-in-law Michel Berger. This is their Cotes du Rhone Rouge, a classic blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Mourvedre and Cinsault; the vineyard from which the grapes are sourced is certified organic, but biodynamic principles are observed and the vineyards here have never been treated with any chemicals. With a rich black cherry and plum core, the wine is medium- to full-bodied and well balanced, with underlying notes of fresh herbs.
