Aubert de Villaine is co-owner and co-director of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, and thus responsible for the production of some of the most respected and most highly valued wines in the world. In the 1970s, however, de Villaine and his wife sought out a less rarefied atmosphere, settling in the small Burgundian village of Bouzeron, where he has been able to make his own wines without the demands of upholding an international reputation. Les Clous Aimé comes from several parcels located on a south-facing slope of Bouzeron's valley, sheltered from summer's north wind during ripening; the vineyard here is planted with selections of Chardonnay grapes that have been chosen for their moderate yields. This is an elegant and racy Chardonnay, bright and precise, with a delicate core of fruit and a nicely defined finish.
