Aldo Viola was born into a winemaking family in Alcamo, in the northwestern corner of Sicily, but came into his own career in wine only after having been a professional footballer for several years. Today he farms some 18 acres near Alcamo, planted entirely to native white varietals, as well as another plot of land closer to the sea planted to red grapes. He is a strong proponent of skin maceration for his whites, giving them all up to eight or nine months of maceration. His frizzante “Brutto” is 100% Catarratto that undergoes its second fermentation in the bottle; bright and juicy with refreshing minerality and a velvety bubble that fills the palate.
