Alvaro Palacios is arguably Spain’s most talked-about winemaker and one of the defining personalities in Spanish wine today. In just 20 years, he has established a formidable reputation as a dynamic pioneer, generating global praise for his wines – in particular, those from the forgotten regions of Spain he has been so active in promoting. Produced at the Palacios winery in Priorat, Camins is something special, a wine that is affordably priced, but which also stays true to Palacios’ vision of Priorat: powerful but elegant, approachable but restrained. A blend of Grenache, Samso, Cabernet and Syrah and a combination of purchased and estate-grown grapes, all from vineyards around Gratallops, it is rich and intense in the mouth, offering weighty dark berry flavors complicated by Asian spices, with smooth tannins and a fleshy, broad finish.
