Having spent more than a quarter of a century working with vines throughout the Maremma region of Tuscany, Antonio Camillo has developed a strong affinity for the grape varieties that are indigenous to the area. When he started his own project in 2006, that affinity became the cornerstone of his enterprise, and he has, in the process, earned the nickname “master of Ciliegiolo,” a grape that has been cultivated for centuries in the Maremma. Camillo works mainly with old vineyards, between forty and fifty years old, cultivates according to traditional methods, uses only natural products, and strives for minimal intervention. His “Toscana Mediterraneo” is indeed Mediterranean, a blend of his favored Ciliegiolo with two other grapes more commonly associated with the south of France, Grenache and Carignane. Light, bright and juicy, it has appealing fruit aromas, well-blended tannins, and a pleasant finish.
