This estate, located in Chassagne-Montrachet, was founded in the mid-1980s by Armand Heitz’s parents Brigette and Christian with initially just a littlle more than12 acres. Armand studied oenology and then decided to take over his family’s vines after completing his studies in 2011. The estate was originally known as Domaine Heitz-Lochardwet but the family changed the name in 2019 in recognition of the strides Armand has made since taking the reins. Armand farms the vineyards using biodynamic practices and his winemaking style is traditional in approach with the use of new oak kept at a minimum, usually around just 20-25%. Coteaux Bourguignons is a regional-level appellation, meaning that the grapes can come from anywhere in the entire Burgundy region, from Auxerre in the north to Beaujolais in the south. “Folie Sauvage,” then, is a 60/40 blend of Gamay from the Beaujolais and Pinot Noir from Meursault and Volnay. This is a bright, lively, food-friendly red with generous fruit flavors and a silky texture.
