Founded in 1983 by the husband-and-wife team of Rob Griffin and Deborah Barnard, Barnard Griffin has been producing award-winning wines for nearly thirty years. Against the advice of his professors at U.C. Davis, who determined that Washington had too cool a climate to sustain wine grapes, Rob Griffin came to Washington in April 1977 to become Preston Winery's first winemaker. From 1984 to 1991 Rob was winemaker and General Manager at Hogue Cellars, and consultant to several Washington producers until completion of his own winery in 1996. Rob has now turned winemaking duties over to his daughter, Megan Hughes. Her Columbia Valley Chardonnay bursts with ripe fruit flavors of orange and apple, with hints of ginger and honey, with rich vanilla aromatics.
