Bodegas Tobelos is the project of Ricardo Reinoso, who founded the winery in Brinas, La Rioja, toward the end of the last century; he had previously served as manager of several prominent Rioja wineries. His Rioja is unusual in that it is made 100% from Garnacha grapes from 60-year-old vines and aged 14 months in a combination of French and American oak. It is powerful and elegant on the nose, showing ripe fruit, aromatic herbs, and balsamic, while the palate offers ripe tannins, lively acidity, and a powerful finish.
