Domaine Bonnardot is a family estate in Bonnecontre, near the Citeaux Abbey. The family has a long heritage of winemaking in the area dating back to 1470, but in more recent memory the key figure has been Elizabeth Bonnardot, who graduated from studying enology in Beaune, then studied with Jules Chauvet and began to practice more natural approaches to her winemaking. Today her sons Ludovic and Emilien guide the winemaking at the estate. This red is from Maranges, the southernmost appellation in the Cote de Beaune, from a single vineyard in the center of the Cheily hills; it has aromas of red currants and other ripe red fruit and is fairly powerful on the palate with firm, elegant tannins on the finish.
