Jack Cakebread is one of Napa Valley's true pioneers, having bought what became Cakebread Cellars more than 45 years ago. Today operations are in the more than capable hands of sons Bruce and Dennis Cakebread, who have greatly increased the level of knowledge and sophistication involved in production of the Cakebread wines. Current winemaker Stephanie Jacobs joined the Cakebread tem in 2004 as an enologist; she was soon promoted to assistant winemaker and now oversees all winemaking operations. This is classic Napa Valley Cab, with aromas of ripe berries and hints of dark chocolate. On the palate, the dark fruit is balanced by fresh acidity and lush tannins that carry all the way over a lingering, elegant finish — with just a kiss of minerality.
