Located in Treiso, a small village in the heart of the Langhe/Barbaresco area, Cantina Rizzi was started a bit more than forty years ago by Ernesto Dellapiana, who gave up a promising career as an entrepreneur to return to the family estate and make wine. Over the years Ernesto and his wife Lia were joined by their two children, Jole and Enrico, now the winemaker, and the original ten-acre vineyard plot has grown to more than 100 acres, planted mostly to Nebbiolo. Year in and year out, the Rizzi wines earn awards and high scores, most notably for their Barbarescos, but this, their entry-level Nebbiolo, deserves equal praise: at once classic and contemporary, it is a wine of great elegance and finesse, full and mellow, perfectly balanced, with a solid tannic structure.
