Located not far from the town of Marsala, on the western coast of Siciliy, Caruso & Minini effectively dates from the late 1800s, when Antonio Caruso bought a company that was growing grapes for the Marsala factories nearby. Nothing much changed until the mid-1900s, when a descendant, Nino Caruso, decided to make and bottle his own wine. In 2004 his son Stefano partnered with Mario Minini from Lombardy, on the mainland, to form Caruso & Minini, a winery devoted exclusively to the production and promotion of wines from native Sicilian varietals. Stefano, now joined by his daughter Giovanna, farms some 300 acres, with some vineyards as high as 1200 feet above sea level. Their Frappo Rose is 100% Frappato, fresh and fruity, with notes of wild strawberry and blood orange and a refreshing saline finish.
