Celler Comunica is a small winery in Montsant started by Patri Morillo and Pep Aguilar in 2010. The partnership between the two actually started years ago when they met each other on a commuter train while studying and having to endure a lengthy trip each day from the outskirts of Barcelona to the interior of Catalonia. Eventually they found themselves to be roommates with other students, sharing a flat with a couple of girls, one of whom Patri ended up marrying. After finishing their studies, Patri and Pep formed their own enology consultancy which, not unexpectedly, led them to the creation of their own label . . . and the purchase of some land and an old farmhouse called Mas d’en Cosme. From the start they have been committed to the expression of fruit, freshness, and purity, abjuring the use of oak. Vi del Mas is mostly Grenache, with a small amount of Carignan, sourced from vines grown around the farmhouse; bright, floral, and energetic, it is loaded with ripe raspberry and cherry with just a hint of orange peel.
