Chateau Monbousqet, in St. Emilion, can trace its history all the way back to 1540. Since 1993, however, it has been home to Gerard and Chantal Perse, who own several other estates in the region, including Chateau Pavie. Angelique de Monbousqet is the second wine of Monbousquet, names for the couple’s daughter. The vineyards here are planted to a 60/30/10 mix of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, and the “Angelique” is made largely from the estate’s younger vines. This is a highly approachable Bordeaux, soft, polished and round, with an oaky, sweet kirsch-like finish.
