Barde Haut was purchased by Sylviane Garcin-Cathiard in September 2000. She comes from a Bordeaux wine family who also own properties in the region and is related to Florence and Daniel Cathiard who own Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte. Chateau Barde Haut is located in the eastern portion of St. Emilion on a well elevated, limestone plateau. Over the past few years, the Garcin-Cathiard family has made a significant investment in renovating the cellars and vineyards of this 40-acre property. The estate is planted to 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, and the vines are on average 35 years of age. The property is run by Silviane’s daughter Helene Garcin-Leveque and her husband Patrick Leveque, who also manage Chateau Clos l’Eglise and Poesia. A 90/10 blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this 2010 is rich, plush, and polished, concentrated and full-bodied with great ripeness to the fruit, one of the best values in St. Emilion today.
