At some 750 acres, Chateau Kefraya is the second-largest winery in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley; the vineyards, planted in the 1950s, line the steep terraces of Mount Barouk at an elevation of 3,000 feet. The estate had been in the Bustros family for generations, but the first vines were planted by Michel de Bustros in 1951 and the first wines produced from these estate-grown grapes in 1979. Michel de Bustros, who died in 2016, regarded Chateau Kefraya as his “lifetime achievement.” A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Carignan, and Mourvedre, this wine is considered emblematic of the domaine: combining power and elegance, it is characterized by subtle notes of cherry, spices, leather and vanilla.
