Ric Forman began making wine in the Napa Valley in 1966 and his name remains today one of the most iconic in the California wine industry. His vineyard property in Napa is surrounded by massive boulders, and so when Forman decided to create a second label in 1984 he named it “La Grande Roche,” the Big Rock. The wine is a selection of barrels that Forman feels don’t meet the very best standards to become Forman Cabernet. The wines are, however, made in the same classic old-world style but are not put into new oak And are released a year earlier than the Forman Cab. This is a bold, punchy yet elegant Cab with dusty herbal fruitiness, firm tannins, and healthy acidity. Only 350-600 cases made annually.
