Chateau Pesdesclaux dates from 1810, when Pierre Urbain Pedesclaux bought vineyard land from another Pauillac estate, Grand Puy. The estate was enlarged in 1883 with the purchase of additional land from neighboring Pontet Canet. From 1891 on the chateau passed through numerous hands until it was acquired in 1950 by Lucien Jugla, who worked arduously to restore it from years of neglect. In 2009 the family sold to Jacky Lorenzetti, owner of Chateau Lillian Ladouys, who now also owns Chateaux d’Issan and Lafon Rochet. Pédesclaux expanded in recent years to include a few parcels in the Médoc just outside the Pauillac appellation, but abutting both Chateaus Lafite and Mouton Rothschild. In 2022 the chateau was certified as being 100% organic. This 2020 vintage, a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, clearly marks this as an estate on the rise: vibrant, firm, and fresh, with great purity of fruit, it has tannins that are soft and ripe, with a gentle polish to the lifted red fruits in the elegant finish.
