Originally a Carmelite monastery, the estate was confiscated during the French Revolution and auctioned off; after passing through numerous owners, it was acquired in 1984 by the owners of Chateau Lafite Rothschild. Since then, the estate has more than doubled in size, going from 100 acres to more than 225 acres. The property is planted almost entirely to Semillon, with small amounts of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, and the vines are planted on slopes of such height as to place Rieussec at one of the highest elevations in the appellation. This highly rated 2007 vintage is filled with nutty and fruity notes of orange, pineapple, honey and citrus; rich and dense, it is lively and long on the palate with the right balance of freshness, sugar and acidity.
