Chateau d’Issan is one of the oldest wine-producing properties in the Medoc as well as in all of Bordeaux. In 1152, the wine produced by what we know of as Chateau d’Issan today was served for the royal wedding between Eleanor of Aquitaine and King Henri II. At the time, the estate was known as Chateau Lamothe Cantenac. In the 17th Century it became the property of the d’Essenault family, and “d’Issan” is based on an early phonetic spelling of that name. Shortly after the end of the Second World War it was acquired by the Cruse family; Emmanuel Cruse took over management of the property in 1998 and has slowly but surely turned it into one of the top estates in the appellation. This 2019 is a full-bodied Bordeaux, nicely concentrated; with lively acids, powdery tannins and a seamless, elegant profile, it's a charming, perfumed wine that will offer a broad drinking window.
