This Pessac-Leognan property, created in 2002 by Francis Boutemy, is today under the joint ownership of Didier Miqueu and Stephan von Neipperg, owner of Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere and La Mondotte in St. Emilion. This is a relatively small operation, with less than 40 acres of vines planted, mostly to Cabnernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and most of the vines are no more than 16 years old. The vineyards are farmed using organic, sustainable viticulture farming techniques and without the use of any insecticides or herbicides. Unusual for Bordeaux, this red is produced using whole-berry fermentation (leaving the grape bunches intact rather than destemming) in a combination of cement tanks and oak vats; the result is a Bordeaux value wine with character and style that does not require cellaring before drinking.
