Corison has become one of the emblematic wineries of Napa Valley. Cathy Corison, owner and winemaker as well as one of the first women proprietor-winemaker in the region, cut her teeth at Chappellet throughout the 1980s making wines at Prichard Hill, so she knew about mountain vineyards. But when the time came, she chose the Rutherford appellation, just below the Mayacamas, to make her own wines. Despite the general notion that the valley floor produces richer wines, Corison has been making balanced, reserved and delicious Cabernets in Rutherford for more than 25 years. Her Kronos vineyard, which makes the flagship wine of the estate, is one of the oldest vineyards in the appellation. This 2015 is among her finest offerings, made from decades-old vines planted on St. George rootstock. Cassis, red currant and floral elements make for an inviting entry of aromatics that is followed by substantial structure and classic herbal undertones. A pillowy body of balanced elegance is met by an earthy, leathery finish of complex beauty.
