A recent online headline reads: “How Brianne Day Is Leading the Next Generation of Natural Oregon Winemakers.” That pretty much says it all, no? Brianne Day bottled her first vintage of Pinot Noir in spring of 2013; there followed a fortuitous encounter with a couple willing to provide financial backing (without even tasting her wine) and by the following year she had gone from making 450 cases of wine to 2500. And her reputation has risen commensurately. But before that Brianne had worked in many facets of the wine business, including harvest and winery work in Burgundy, the Willamette Valley, and Argentina. Her “Deep Blue” version of Pinot Noir is a blend of grapes from seven biodynamic and organically farmed vineyards, all selected for their dark blue and black fruit profiles. Light -bodied and refreshing, it offers delicate flavors of herbal tea and crunchy red fruit.
