The De Forvilles emigrated to Piedmont from Belgium in 1848 and established themselves in the village of Barbaresco in 1860; in 1907 Paolo Anfosso married into the DeForville family and took over the reins of the family business, but it was only in 1940 that they began bottling their own wines. Now the fifth generation is in place, in the persons of Valter and Paolo Anfosso. The nearly 28-acre domaine is divided between holdings in the villages of Barbaresco and Castagnole Lanze, the vineyards in Barbaresco being the source of this wine, made from a selection of grapes from the younger vines here. This is a Nebbiolo with striking ruby color and a nose that displays bright red fruits with hints of spice. This complexity is carried onto the palate with racy acidity and oak bringing freshness and structure.
