After finishing his oenology training and working for a short stint with natural winemaker Jean-Baptiste Senat, Benjamin Taillandier in 2007 settled in his family’s hometown of Caunes-Minervois, which sits between the ancient city of Carcassonne and the Montagne Noire. He bought a little less than 20 acres of land already planted to Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, and Terret Gris and began working the vineyards organically, eventually adding four more acres and converting entirely to biodynamics. Taillandier currently produces eight different cuvees, a mix of whites, reds, and a rose. Laguzelle, a blend of Cinsault, Syrah and Carignan, is done entirely in stainless steel; it shows fresh aromas of dried herbs with luscious flavors of black fruit and warm spices on the palate with just a hint of pepper.
