A small family-run estate, Domaine Durdilly is located in the southern part of the Beaujolais region. Hand-harvesting their fruit and using native yeasts, Durdilly creates distinctive wines with complexity, flavor, and texture. Their 40-70-year-old vines sit atop pure white chalky soil, at some of the highest spots in Beaujolais. Theirs is one of the few 100% estate-bottled, hand harvested, indigenous yeast basic Beaujolais available in the United States. The estate cultivates some twenty different, small vineyard plots in and around their town of Bois d’Oignt, in sections called “Les Grandes Coasses” and “La Carrière,” at the southern tip of the appellation, where many of the vineyards have soils that are pure limestone. This is a complex yet balanced red, more like a Burgundy than standard Beaujolais, with aromas of violets and flavors of plums and red berries.
