Located about halfway between Gigondas and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Rouge-Bleu is a combination farm/winery and bed-and-breakfast. Founded in 2007 by Jean-Marc Espinasse, it was acquired in 2012 by Caroline Jones, Australian winemaker, and her partner Thomas Bernard, originally from Alsace but a veteran of many years in the British wine trade. This is a small property, comprising some 22 acres of stone and vine, all of which are farmed organically/biodynamically. Their village, Sainte-Cecile les Vignes, was recently elevated to be one of the favored few allowed to conjoin the village name to “Cotes du Rhone Villages.” “Mistral” is a classic blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre with a bit of Roussanne (a white grape) added in; with black fruits and warm spices on the nose, it is full-bodied, with structured tannins and an elegant finish.
