Agnès and Christian Papin founded the Haute Perche winery in 1966 in the village of Saint Melaine sur Aubance near Angers in the Loire Valley. From 2012 to 2019 their daughter Véronique ran the winery but then handed it on to a Parisian accountant passionate about wine, Thierry Denjean. Veronique already had initiated the conversion to organic production and Denjean has continued in that direction, toward conversion to biodynamics. The domaine spans some 80 acres of vineyards planted to both red and white varietals, but pride of place probably goes to Chenin Blanc, the grape on which this white is based. Round and fresh on the palate, it typifies the grape variety, with aromas of apricots, peaches and quince and delicate nutty nuances from barrel fermentation.
